Scotty's Castle

Scotty's Castle. Scotty, by all accounts, was a scoundral. He was not above taking, by hook or crook, everything he could from anyone foolish enough to offer it. His one redeaming feature was his ability to tell a story, which created a vast friendship between Mr. Johnson, the money man, and him that lasted until the end of their lives.

Castle entrance, through the court yard between the two main buildings that make up the main house.
The pool was never finished because the Castle was built on land that was owned by the government. It took forever to settle the mistake with the federal government, so the pool was never finished.

Death Valley

Welcome to "Death Valley"
Zabriskie Point
20 Mule Team Wagons. Used to haul borax 170 miles into southern california. The tank on the far end held 1500 gals of water for the trip.
242 feet below sea level. We were happy to be there in the winter.

China Date Farm

China Date Ranch is south of Tecopa, CA in the Amargosa Valley, called the Grand Canyon of California. China Date Ranch is on the "Old Santa Fe Trail".
A look at the sorting table, showing the varity of dates produced on the farm.

Workers on the Farm. The Old Man said he was usually the only one around and that he did everything from trimming the trees to sorting the fruit.
